Laser gun? No its a laser sight

Many people were captivated by laser guns and laser beam from science fiction movies such as Star Wars, Star Trek and other shows. Some of them were hoping the miracle of nowadays technology could develop one. However, current technologies are still in far reach in creating a directed energy weapon.

Laser beam can be used as a straight line in surveying. Distances can be measured by timing a light pulse travelling from the laser to a mirror and back to a detector near the laser. Lasers are used by the military for range-finding and target designation and are being developed as both anti satellite and ballistic-missile defense weapons.

The only weapon system small enough to be hand carried that have a laser are handguns with laser sights scope for targeting. Laser sights scope were mostly used in law enforcement or military arsenal as a sniper weapon.
